DIY Awl

an awl is a very useful tool.  knot work, pack and leather repairs, adding another hole to your belt cuz your eating so well on the trail!  plus for us gear hounds, it's another tool to procure.

of course a very nice awl can be purchased, but i like to make my own tools when i can.  so i made these.  the smaller one is from some metal rod i found in a parking lot one day, it has an antler crown from a small spike buck.  the larger one is from a sixteen-penny nail and some kind of antler.  both the awls were chucked in the drill press and shaped to a point with files and sand paper.  just keep working thru the grits till it shines, then finish with 0000 steel wool.  i still need to make some kind of case/sheath for them.  for now they are stuck into a slice of cardboard.

God Bless Yall!
